Friends should be number 1 beside family and those you consider family. Friends will see you through a hard time and check in with you when you are at your lowest. Don’t take friendships for granted and never date a friend or even be a roommate to a friend, those are sure fire ways to lose a friendship without much effort.
We are all small beings in a large scheme. Just think of this, what is your space inside the universe? Want to feel small? Watch some documentary on space telescopes and how they discover billions of galaxies inside the view as wide as a pencil lead. I want someone to see this picture (the picture I saw) and say there is no chance that somewhere in all those galaxies there is not life. I forget the name of the documentary but it was about launching then assembling a telescope in space, beyond the moon.
Now think about how large and seeminly endless space is and how generally large the world is and for you to make a friendship with someone that last… decades is something that is special. I do not have any relationships that have lasted decades besides with my brothers. My ex wife and I knew each other a fair amount of time and in retrospect we should have just remained friends.
You only have one life to live so I’m the type of person to say whatever makes you happy do it. No matter what that is or what people think of it do you! No regrets!
